For some awesome articles about deviantART's Comic Con 2013 experience by the amazing $LaurenKitsune go here. I personally attend every year for vacation - sounds crazy I know - but that doesn't mean I didn't do a little networking while there. Oh, what a hardship...talking about art with artists
Amazing!
I STILL BELIEVE THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE!!!!! #Lifelongdreamcometrue
I loved that the line was quite a good length:Recognize some faces? Yep that's $xraystyle, $aunjuli, $ZevGordoni and $Keight123
$aunjulie gave *BrianKesinger an awesome painting she'd done:
Speaking of giving celebs homemade art, I caught this girl at the "Hannibal" panel at NerdHQ crosstiching for Hugh Dancy (Will Graham):She actually finished that in time to give to him. ($aunjuli gave him some tea and I failed to get a pic )
I saw some "Big Bang Theory" fan art:
~BruteForceStudios owner Thomas Willeford and his apprentice. Ok, actually when I went over to talk to him this young man named Dashel and his father walked over. Dashel built the gun using Willeford's book "The Art of Steampunk" as a guide. Awesome to see an artist getting to see his inspiration at work. I had to stick around the booth and just listen to them go on about the process. I spoke to the father who said that this was an amazing father and son project. It was by far my favorite moment at the Con.
Over at the Corvink booth I asked ~deniscaron and fan (who had just gotten a signed print from him) to pose as "happy artist and enthusiastic fan". I think they nailed it.
OMG and this!!!!!! ~kohse who is not only an honorary member of the 501st but did this amazing Steampunk Voltron! He even told us some of the ideas he had for new Voltron arcs which I won't mention because then you'll cry like me that they don't exist. ALL THE FEELS!!!!
It was crazy, exciting, exhausting, infuriating and that was just preview night for the badge line. Ok seriously, though, while I may be dragging around the offices today it's a happy exhaustion. I knew it was gonna be a good time when my friends and I walked over to the Con and saw this:
They'd changed the signs at the train stop into Dothraki. Later that night I saw this outside my hotel:Amazing!
I didn't dress up on Thursday, thank goodness, since I spent all day in the infamous Ballroom 20. For those who have not yet experienced the madness, people begin lining up for Hall H and Ballroom 20 events the night - if not days - before because that is where all the TV and movie stuff happens. I had two very good reasons to camp out there all day. "Sherlock" and "The X-Files". Factoid about me. I AM AN X-PHILE! I saw every episode from the first airing to the last. I own it on VHS and DVD, not to mention what I taped from the television (and yes I just aged myself big time). I've kept all my magazines, action figures, signed posters, Mulder/Scully badges, etc. I've even dressed as Scully on occasion. But I've never gotten to see David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson in the same room at the same time. That has changed:
I STILL BELIEVE THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE!!!!! #Lifelongdreamcometrue
They weren't the only ones up there. Chris Carter and nearly every writer/producer was on the panel but I've gotten to see them. IT'S MULDER AND SCULLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!! *fangirl faint*
I also got some "X-Files Season 10" comics at IDW signed by Chris Carter, Dean Haglund, Gillian Anderson and Joe Harris...there's another name but I honestly can't tell you who. He wasn't on the panel and I can't read his signature
I actually went to 2 "Sherlock" panels that day - who's a nerd? - but the better pics came from the one at NerdHQ:
Of course the stars wouldn't be there because of other filming commitments but we got Mycroft Holmes! Otherwise known as Mark Gatiss along with Sue Vertue and Steven Moffat. Whovians would've been in awe as well.Speaking of panels...deviantART hosted three including "How-To: The Business of Fan Art". When I got up there the panelists were taking a relaxing moment:
I loved that the line was quite a good length:Recognize some faces? Yep that's $xraystyle, $aunjuli, $ZevGordoni and $Keight123
$makepictures hosted and the panelists included $damphyr, *BrianKesinger, `Artgerm, ~opasinski , *MrBabyTattoo and WeLoveFine
$aunjulie gave *BrianKesinger an awesome painting she'd done:
I saw some "Big Bang Theory" fan art:
And some cool things behind the Convention Center:
It's love
Marissa Meyer signing "Scarlet"
Veronica Roth singing "Divergent"
Kind of frightening actually...Robin looks like he's plotting evil.
These LEGO Sculptures of Batman characters and Bagsend:
I snuck over and got a pic with Thorin Oakenshield:
It's love
Let's talk books. That is the main reason I go. I didn't get to do as much on that end as I have in the past but I still did good. Some authors I met:
Even villians read. Here the Riddler is getting a book signed.
Jason M. Hough - who I actually got a pic with signing his book "Darwin Elevator"I also got signed a copy of "A Once Crowded Sky" by Tom King who was in Artists Alley. The artwork for the book was done by Tom Fowler.
And while walking around with $spotted we met *MitchFoust and got a copy of his preview sketchbook for "Rogues of Larakesh"
Which leads me to Artists:
I met quite a few while walking around with $spotted. Including:
*travisJhanson who drew me a robot pic.
Over at the Corvink booth I asked ~deniscaron and fan (who had just gotten a signed print from him) to pose as "happy artist and enthusiastic fan". I think they nailed it.
And I picked up a signed comic and print of Lady Mechanika from *joebenitez.
Steampunk Explorers.
$damphyr as Capt. Jack Harkness (why are all the captains named Jack?) and $aunjuli as a pink Dalek

Or maybe it was another reason Oh dear....looks like the Droogs are back:

Comic Con 2015 - Gone but not forgotten...
I can't believe Comic Con 2015 is over :( My body is still recovering. This year I felt was a little light on cosplay but I found some good ones. Of course it was my usual Con - books, books, books - with a little extra fun thrown in, like the impromptu interview I got to do with the voice of Donatello from TMNT and one of the voices from 'Sanjay and Craig':
Rob Paulsen (Donatello) and Maulik Pancholy (Sanjay and Craig)
My friend and I went into the booth and did a couple of recordings with them which was fun :) There's an embarrassing video of that somewhere...
I also did some other interviews which I'll put some links up to once I ge
Outlander Costumes Exhibit
So if you live in Los Angeles area and are a fan of the Starz show "Outlander" or the books by Diana Gabaldon - or like me both :D - there is a display of some of the shows costumes up at The Grove. The exhibit is there until May 31st.
I went this past weekend and while it's a good thing that they put the costumes behind glass to keep people like me from touching them so I can see all the stitching, et. ;) it also makes photographing them really hard due to the glare. But hopefully you'll get the gist...
The first 2 cases are located at the bottom of the escalators from the parking garage:
They have a listing of what episode each costum
Penny Dreadful - Mr. Gray Will See You Now
Ok, I couldn’t resist the pun on that. Seriously, Dorian Gray was the original right? A devastatingly handsome man given to all manner of vices and dark pleasures. However, unlike the the current version, this Mr. Gray really does have some truly dark sides to him and his ‘hidden room’ carries something far more sinister than anything the other one could dream of.
Anyhooo….
I’ve recently become OBSESSED with the show “Penny Dreadful”. I resisted it until now because I was convinced that it was just a tired re-hashing of “The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen” and while there are quit
Griffin and Sabine: Books You Should Be Reading
I discovered this amazing tale a few years ago when I worked for a bookstore and was instantly captured by the use of art and letters to tell an amazing story of romance and intrigue. I still, to this day, cannot figure if there is magic involved outside of the way Nick Bantock weaved his story: Are Griffin and Sabine living in parallel universes? Does she really exist? Does he really exist? Who is this mysterious entity that is trying to keep them apart? So many questions….so many themes….so many reasons to reread over and over again.
The thing that really stood out to me is how many experiences the reader is drawn into.

Terrific pictures. Don't know how you found the time and opportunity in that sea of humanity.
